Italy World Cup winner Gennaro Gattuso quits as OFI Crete manager

Italian World Cup winner Gennaro Gattuso resigns from his post as manager of Greek club OFI Crete after seven matches, following a 3-2 defeat to Asteras Tripolis.

Italian World Cup winner Gennaro Gattuso has resigned from his post as manager of Greek club OFI Crete after seven matches.

The 36-year-old former Azzurri midfielder took over at the Greek Super League outfit in June, but has stepped down following a 3-2 home defeat by Asteras Tripolis.

Gattuso told a news conference: "I have put all my passion and all my strength into this team but I can't be the one solving all the club's problems every day, I'm not the president and my job should only be football.

"I feel very upset but I cannot continue. The players don't believe in me."

Gattuso made headlines when his expletive-laden OFI Crete press conference in September went viral.
