Manchester United reportedly place a £25m valuation on central defender Chris Smalling.

Manchester United have reportedly placed a £25m valuation on central defender Chris Smalling.

The Englishman was deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford last summer and subsequently joined Roma on loan for the 2019-20 campaign.

The Italian giants have made it clear on at least two occasions that they want to sign the former non-league defender on a permanent deal during this summer's transfer window.

However, according to Metro, United have signalled that they will not consider selling the 30-year-old unless they receive an offer of at least £25m.

The report claims that Roma were 'shocked' to learn of the English club's valuation, leading to the Serie A outfit reconsidering a permanent bid at the end of the season.

Smalling, who has a contract at Old Trafford until the summer of 2022, has scored twice in 28 appearances for Paulo Fonseca's side during the 2019-20 campaign.
