Tottenham 'make contact with Man Utd over Smalling'

Manchester United's Chris Smalling is reportedly wanted by both Everton and Tottenham Hotspur should the 30-year-old leave Roma at the end of his loan spell.

Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling has reportedly attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Everton after an impressive loan spell at Roma.

The 30-year-old joined Paulo Fonseca's side on loan from United last summer and has put in a number of strong performances for the Italian outfit since his arrival, scoring twice and claiming one assist in 19 league appearances.

However, Roma's place in the Champions League could be in jeopardy after a recent poor run of form, and according to Corriere Dello Sport, Tottenham and Everton have made contact with the Red Devils over the England international, while Juventus are also keeping tabs on his future.

The report also adds that United chief executive Ed Woodward has increased the defender's asking price to £16.5m, a fee Roma would not be able to endorse should they fail to obtain a spot in the Champions League for next season.

Fonseca's side currently sit six points adrift of fourth-placed Atalanta, having drawn one and lost three of their last four matches.
