Chief executive Ed Woodward acknowledges that the summer transfer window could be crucial in the development of Manchester United.

Chief executive Ed Woodward has suggested that Manchester United will look to sign a variety of players during the summer.

While United have made five first-team additions over the past two transfer windows, there has been a constant demand from supporters to add more fresh faces to the first-team squad.

According to Woodward, United will be active in the market later in 2020, with the club official identifying the period as an "important opportunity".

At a fans forum, Woodward said: "Our focus is on bringing in a combination of experience and the best young players with potential to develop further, fusing graduates from our academy with high-quality acquisitions.

"Our recruitment process focuses on analysis and selection of players over the course of a season, with a view to the following summer transfer window. As part of the rebuild we see this coming summer as an important opportunity."

United currently sit in eighth position in the Premier League table, six points adrift of the Champions League places.
