Leighton Baines hails 'positive' Roberto Martinez

Leighton Baines hails Roberto Martinez's positive approach to football, ahead of a meeting against his old manager this weekend.

Everton full-back Leighton Baines has hailed Roberto Martinez's positive approach to football.

Baines faces his former manager this weekend when David Moyes returns to Goodison Park with Manchester United, trailing his old side in the Premier League.

The 29-year-old has much respect for Moyes but praises the work done by Martinez since his departure.

"The two managers are totally different in every way," Baines told The Guardian. "They both have things they are really good at, but with the current manager it's ultra-positive.

"That's been the big thing for me; the difference in the style of play, committing to that and not feeling we have to adapt to the opposition. The new manager has that confidence and belief in himself, in his own blueprint, and then in us.

"He also spoke about the Champions League from the start, he didn't shy away from it. We might have got away with a fairly ordinary season but he didn't want to accept that. He wanted to improve on what we'd done before, and we've done that."

Everton face Manchester United on Sunday at 4.10pm.
