Ajax boss Frank de Boer "honoured" by Liverpool's interest

Frank de Boer reveals that he was "honoured" to be approached by Liverpool two years ago, and says that he is open to managing in England.

Ajax manager Frank de Boer has admitted that he felt "honoured" when he was approached by Liverpool about taking over at Anfield two years ago.

Prior to giving Brendan Rodgers the managerial vacancy at Anfield, the Merseyside outfit targeted De Boer.

The Dutchman was also contacted by Tottenham Hotspur last year before they appointed Mauricio Pochettino to the hotseat at White Hart Lane.

Despite knocking back approaches from the Premier League, De Boer has confirmed that he is open to moving to England at some stage in his career.

"Two years ago, I was very honoured that Liverpool asked me if I was interested in the job," De Boer told Sky Sports News. "There was still was other candidates also. But I just signed a new contract and I said you are too early at this moment.

"Tottenham, last year, I was one of the candidates and in the end they chose Pochettino and all respect to the choice. There were two clubs that I was quite interested in.

"I would like to manage in England but also Germany and the Spanish league because they are the three best leagues in the world, so I would like to get that experience."

De Boer was linked with the managerial vacancy at Newcastle United, but expects to finish the season with Ajax.
