Danny Ings targets England call

Burnley striker Danny Ings says that he wants to force his way into the England side.

Burnley striker Danny Ings has said that he wants to play his way into the England side.

The Under-21 international has enjoyed a productive first season in the Premier League so far, scoring seven goals in 19 appearances for the Clarets to become the league's fifth-top English goalscorer.

Only former Claret Charlie Austin, West Bromwich Albion's Saido Berahino, Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United's Wayne Rooney have netted more Premier League goals this term.

"I'm only 22, there's a lot of development to be made, and there's a lot of top strikers," Ings told the Burnley Express.

"Charlie is a good friend of mine and he's done fantastic, he'll score at any level, I'd be very surprised if he doesn't get the call for the next squad. And Saido and Harry are a pleasure to work with.

"It's promising for English football, but for me and my chances, if an opportunity ever comes up, I plan on taking it with both hands. It's not about getting a call up, it's about getting that and maintaining it and staying in there, that's what I'm aiming for."

Ings netted 22 goals for Burnley last season as they won promotion from the Championship.
