Colchester United and Oldham Athletic share the spoils in season opener

Colchester and Oldham both take away a point from their first game of the League One season as Jonathan Forte scores twice for the Latics in a 2-2 draw.

Colchester United shared the spoils with Oldham Athletic after each side had to come back from a goal down to take a point each in a 2-2 draw.

Colchester took the lead in the opening 10 minutes thanks to a Magnus Okuonghae strike, after Jabo Ibehre's effort from a corner was blocked.

Oldham did not take long to reply as Jonathan Forte levelled the scores, as he drifted past Colchester's defence to beat the keeper when one-on-one.

Forte scored his second just before half-time as Brian Wilson fed through the ball for the striker to finish smartly.

Colchester levelled up the scores up once again as a Freddie Sears shot rebounded off the post, with an alert George Moncur smashing the ball high into the net to make it 2-2.

A shout for an Oldham handball was ignored by the referee as both sides looked for the game decider, but neither team was unable to find the fifth goal of the game as the match ended in a draw.
