Brighton manager Gus Poyet labels the Championship an "average" league.

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Gus Poyet has labelled the Championship "average" in terms of quality.

Poyet cited the fact that his side are on a poor run of form, yet still hold eighth place in the division, as the reasoning behind his claim.

"Without winning games we are there," he told BBC Sussex. "It shows you how average this division is. Competitive, but average.

"With the results we have had, we should be 15th or 18th. We are still there because it is average."

Brighton host Millwall on Tuesday night at the Amex.
