Burnley strike late to rescue point at Nottingham Forest

Eric Lichaj scores his first goal in 81 matches for Nottingham Forest as they draw 1-1 with Burnley in the Championship.

Matthew Taylor scored in the 90th minute to rescue a point for Burnley in their 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest this evening.

Forest started on the front foot, but were limited to long-range efforts in the opening 10 minutes.

First, Henri Lansbury took aim from 35 yards before David Vaughan directed the ball wide from a similar distance two minutes later.

Nelson Oliveira, looking to add his second goal in Forest colours, tested Tom Heaton in the 17th minute but the 29-year-old saved comfortably.

The England goalkeeper was called into action again when Lansbury's 20-yard effort was powered towards the bottom right corner.

Sam Vokes twice came close to scoring before half time, but could not direct a pair of headers on target.

Forest continued to attack in the second half, but still could not find their shooting boots. Lansbury's shot was blocked before Jamie Ward and Oliveira both shot off target.

Their persistence finally paid off in the 73rd minute, with a goal from the most unlikely of sources. Right-back Eric Lichaj had previously played 80 matches for Forest without hitting the net but made no mistake when a corner fell to him to direct the ball into the bottom left corner from 20 yards.

Burnley were given a lifeline just two minutes later when Lansbury was given his marching orders for a dangerous tackle on Ben Mee, which left the defender needing treatment.

Vokes nearly made the most of the situation with nine minutes remaining but his header went wide of the post from Tendayi Darikwa's cross.

The scores were level at the death when Matthew Taylor struck a trademark long-range shot which found the top right corner.
