Roma are reportedly considering whether to offer a deal to Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, who could leave on a free transfer this summer.

Roma are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.

The Spaniard has made over 500 appearances for the Red Devils since arriving at Old Trafford in 2011, but his future with the club is currently the centre of widespread speculation.

De Gea is out of contract at the end of the season, and he is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal, raising the prospect of a possible departure.

A recent report claimed that the 31-year-old turned down Man United's latest contract offer, as he was not prepared to take a huge pay cut on his £375,000 a-week wages.

De Gea has insisted that he is "really happy" at Old Trafford, and the club are expected to return with a fresh proposal.

However, if the two parties are unable to reach an agreement then De Gea could leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

According to Fichajes, Roma are among De Gea's admirers and may decide to offer him a contract if he leaves Man United in the summer.

The report claims that Mourinho is keen to sign De Gea, with the Roma boss not fully convinced by his current goalkeeping options, which include former Wolverhampton Wanderers stopper Rui Patricio.

Mourinho has previous experience of coaching De Gea during his time as Man United manager between 2016 and 2018.

However, Mourinho could face competition for his former goalkeeper, with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus believed to be showing an interest.

Despite being linked with a potential departure, De Gea continues to be an important player in the Man United side, having kept 18 clean sheets in 42 appearances this season.

De Gea is expected to start in goal when Manchester United travel to St James' Park to face Newcastle United on Sunday.

The Red Devils go into the contest in third place with three points separating them from the Magpies, who occupy fifth position.
