Leicester City ease past Burton Albion

Leicester City see off Burton Albion with a first-half double.

Leicester City have seen off the threat of Burton Albion with goals from Chris Wood and Richie de Laet.

It was the perfect start for the home side in this potential banana skin of a tie, with the on-form Wood latching onto a Paul Konchesky long-ball to squeeze past the defence and finish low.

Robbie Weir attempted an immediate response for Burton with a drive from range, but he could not keep it down.

Marko Futacs had an effort with a volley after 15 minutes, but his attempt bounced through to Dean Lyness.

On 22 minutes, it was 2-0 to the hosts. Wood battled through to set up Lloyd Dyer, whose shot was blocked but De Laet tapped in the rebound.

Weir then forced Kasper Schmeichel into a decent stop with a volley but the sides went into the break at 2-0.

After the break Futacs missed a glorious chance to make it 3-0 but blazed over from close range.

Midway through the half Calvin Zola attempted a spectacular overhead kick, but he could only direct it straight at the Leicester goalkeeper.

Michael Keane had a header blocked off the line but despite their efforts City could not add a third and took an easy 2-0 win.
