England ease to victory over Peru in World Cup warm-up clash

Strikes from Daniel Sturridge, Gary Cahill and Phil Jagielka hand England a comfortable win over Peru in their final match on home soil before the start of the World Cup.

England recorded a comfortable 3-0 victory over Peru in their last match on home soil ahead of the World Cup as goals from Daniel Sturridge, Gary Cahill and Phil Jagielka secured the win.

The visitors threatened early on when Jean Deza picked up the ball outside the penalty area and fired an effort at goal which deflected off Jagielka and forced Joe Hart into a fine stop.

England responded immediately and Adam Lallana surged into the penalty area down the right and his pass was picked up by Sturridge, who hit a first-time shot inches past the post.

Roy Hodgson's side took the lead in the 32nd minute when Sturridge found space on the edge of the area and curled an effort into the top corner past the outstretched hand of Raul Fernandez.

The Three Lions pressed for a second goal as the half came to an end, but the closest they came was when Danny Welbeck guided a header from Leighton Baines's free kick over the bar.

Luis Ramirez had a chance to get Peru level just before the break, but as he closed in on goal Hart narrowed the angle and made an impressive stop with his feet.

After half time, the visitors continued to look a threat on the counter-attack and Deza came close as he let fly with an ambitious 35-yard effort which went inches over the bar.

Deza threatened again minutes later when Glen Johnson was robbed of the ball and Deza was played through on goal, but Jagielka tracked back to make a saving tackle.

England doubled their lead after the minor scare when Cahill met Baines's corner from the left and powered a header past Fernandez into the top corner.

Jagielka made sure of the win for the Three Lions when he capitalised on a spill from Fernandez from another corner from Baines, and he fired the ball through the legs of the keeper to get his side's third.
