Half-Time Report: Daniel Sturridge hands England lead against Peru

Daniel Sturridge scores in the 32nd minute to hand England a one-goal advantage at the break in their warm-up clash with Peru at Wembley.

The visitors threatened early on when Jean Deza picked up the ball outside the penalty area and fired an effort at goal which deflected off Phil Jagielka and forced Joe Hart into a fine stop.

England responded immediately and Adam Lallana surged into the penalty area down the right and his pass was picked up by Sturridge, who hit a first-time shot inches past the post.

Roy Hodgson's side took the lead in the 32nd minute when Sturridge found space on the edge of the area and curled an effort into the top corner past the outstretched hand of Raul Fernandez.

The Three Lions pressed for a second goal as the half came to an end but the closest they came was when Danny Welbeck guided a header from Leighton Baines's free kick over the bar.

Luis Ramirez had a chance to get Peru level just before the break, but as he closed in on goal Hart narrowed the angle and made an impressive stop with his feet.
