Borussia Dortmund Marco Reus is named German player of the year in a poll carried out by Kicker magazine.

Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus has been named German player of the year in a poll conducted by Kicker magazine.

The German international collected 217 votes from the country's football writers to finish ahead of new teammates Mats Hummels and Roebrt Lewandowski to win the coveted award.

Reus said: "It makes me very proud because this is an award which will remain with me forever.

"This recognition is also an incentive to keep going and get even better in the new season.

"Things are just getting going now. Experience is certainly a defining factor and that should build up over the coming years."

Reus' manager at Dortmund Jurgen Klopp was also voted coach of the year.

Dortmund begin their defence of the Bundesliga title against Werder Bremen on Friday, August 24.
