Luis Suarez says he cried with happiness when finding out that Barcelona still wanted to sign him in 2014 despite his four-month ban for biting Giorgio Chiellini.

Luis Suarez has revealed that he cried with happiness when finding out that Barcelona still wanted to sign him in 2014.

The Uruguayan was given a four-month suspension for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup Group D match between the two nations in Brazil.

Despite the controversy surrounding the incident, which took place in June, Barca went on to sign Suarez from Liverpool in a £75m deal the following month.

"I did cross my mind that it could end my dream of joining Barcelona, that I could lose everything," Suarez told teammate Gerard Pique in an interview for The Players Tribune.

"In the days before I was kicked out of the World Cup, I spoke to Zubizarreta and the president. They told me that they still wanted me and I don't have any problem in saying that I cried because they still wanted me.

"After what happened it was difficult to have confidence in me. Barcelona were fantastic with me over this and I will always be grateful."

Suarez has been a revelation at Camp Nou, scoring 135 goals and registering 74 assists in just 172 appearances.
