Preview: Wycombe Wanderers vs. Peterborough United - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's League One clash between Wycombe Wanderers and Peterborough United, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Wycombe Wanderers will have the chance to claim a third consecutive victory in all competitions when they face Peterborough United at Adams Park on Sunday.

The visitors, meanwhile, will be looking to get their League One promotion bid back on track after taking just one point from their last three matches.

Wycombe will head into the weekend in a positive mood after recording consecutive victories over Brighton Under-21s and Cheltenham Town.

The Chairboys cruised to a 4-1 victory over Brighton Under-21s to seal their place in the EFL Trophy quarter-finals, before they produced another free-scoring display in last Saturday's trip to Gloucestershire.

Matt Bloomfield's side swept past Cheltenham via a 3-1 scoreline thanks to efforts from Jack Grimmer and Gareth McCleary as well as a Curtis Davies own goal.

As a result of their eighth league win of the season, Wycombe are now in 16th position with a four-point buffer to the relegation zone.

Although they face a tough test this weekend, the Chairboys may fancy their chances of taking something from the game, having avoided defeat in each of their last four home league matches (W1, D3).

While Peterborough are currently sitting in fourth position, their promotion bid has lost momentum following back-to-back defeats against Wigan Athletic and Exeter City.

Harrison Burrows dispatched his spot kick to give Peterborough a half-time lead in Tuesday's away meeting with Exeter, but the complexion of the match changed when Michael Olakigbe was given his marching orders within 10 minutes of the restart.

The Grecians turned the contest on its head with two own goals in the space of five minutes to condemn Posh to their first away league defeat since November.

Having taken just one point from their last three matches, Darren Ferguson's side are now three points adrift of second-placed Derby County.

After failing to win any of their previous four head-to-head meetings, the Posh will try to record their first victory over Wycombe since January 2020.

Team News

Wycombe are unable to call upon forward Brandon Hanlon, who is out for the rest of the season due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

After seeing his side claim all three points last weekend, Bloomfield could be tempted to name an unchanged lineup for Saturday's contest.

January addition Bez Lubala will provide Bloomfield with a useful option off the bench after making his Wycombe debut as a substitute against Cheltenham.

As for the visitors, Jacob Wakeling is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury in an Under-21 game against Tottenham Hotspur.

Goalkeeper Will Blackmore is another injury absentee, while winger Kwame Poku is unlikely to recover in time for Saturday's fixture.

Peterborough are also without the services of Olakigbe, who will serve a one-match suspension following his red card on Tuesday.

Wycombe Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Stryjek; Vincent-Young, Grimmer, Low, Leahy; McCleary, Potts, Butcher, Sadlier; Taylor, Vokes

Peterborough United possible starting lineup:
Bilokapic; Katongo, Knight, Edwards, Burrows; Collins, Kyprianous; Ajiboye, Randall, Mason-Clark; Jones

We say: Wycombe Wanderers 2-2 Peterborough United

Peterborough have failed to win their last three league matches, and we think that poor run of form could continue in Saturday's away meeting with a Wycombe side who have drawn three of their previous four home games in the third tier.
