West Bromwich Albion defender Craig Dawson has said that he was relieved to learn that he would not require surgery to correct a knee problem.

Dawson was forced off in the latter stages of West Brom's Premier League clash with Southampton on October 21 after colliding with teammate Allan Nyom, and it had been thought that the 27-year-old would require surgery.

The Englishman is facing two months on the sidelines due to a torn knee capsule, but Dawson was just relieved to avoid an operation.

"The good news is that as things stand I will not need any surgery," the Birmingham Mail quotes Dawson as saying. "I think that's something every player is relieved to hear when they suffer an injury.

"There was a lot of swelling because of the bleeding from the thigh but it is settling down and now it is really just a case of rest."

Dawson joined West Brom from Rochdale in the summer of 2010.
