Swansea City manager Francesco Guidolin taken to hospital

Swansea City manager Francesco Guidolin will miss his side's match against Arsenal having been taken to hospital with a chest infection.

Swansea City manager Francesco Guidolin has been taken to hospital due to a chest infection.

Guidolin has been suffering from the problem for more than a week, but was in the dugout for his side's 2-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

However, the 60-year-old has failed to respond fully to medical treatment and will now spend a few days in hospital, meaning that he will miss this evening's match against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

"Swansea City head coach Francesco Guidolin will miss tonight's Barclays Premier League fixture at Arsenal," read a statement from the club.

"Guidolin has been struggling with a chest infection for over a week and after failing to respond fully to medical treatment, was referred to a respiratory specialist at a London hospital this afternoon. The specialist felt that the best course of action was for Guidolin to remain in hospital for a few days to receive further treatment.

"He is in a comfortable position and is expected to recover fully in a few days. Everyone at Swansea City wishes him a speedy recovery. Alan Curtis will carry out his duties during his recovery period."

Swansea currently sit 16th in the Premier League table, three points clear of the relegation zone.
