Preview: St Mirren vs. Aberdeen - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Scottish Premiership clash between St Mirren and Aberdeen, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

St Mirren will be attempting to maintain their perfect start to the new Scottish Premiership campaign when they host Aberdeen on Sunday.

The visitors are without a win in their first two league games, but after positive results in other competitions, the Dons will be aiming to change that.

Match preview

St Mirren have impressed at the start of the new Scottish Premiership campaign, being one of only two teams to win the first couple of games.

The Buddies are currently second in the division with only goal difference between them and Celtic right now, giving the team plenty to play for this weekend as a victory could move them into first place.

Steve Robinson's men have already claimed victories against Dundee and Hibernian, which they then followed on last week by progressing in the Scottish League Cup.

Caolan Boyd-Munce scored the only goal of the game against Motherwell last time out in the ninth minute, with the Buddies putting together a strong defensive performance to ensure that was enough.

The win extended St Mirren's undefeated run to six games in all competitions, kick-starting the new campaign in a positive manner as they aim to improve upon their sixth-placed finish last season.

Aberdeen are without a victory in their opening two matches in the Scottish Premiership which is something they need to turn around sooner than later to ensure that the season does not run away from them.

An opening-day draw against Livingston was followed by a defeat against Celtic with the offensive side of the team struggling as the Dons have only scored once in those matches.

However, Barry Robson's team have reacted well to those results in other competitions by picking up a win in the Scottish League Cup and then a draw in the Europa League.

The Dons defeated Stirling Albion in the cup with goals from Bojan Miovski and Leighton Clarkson proving to be enough, although their opponents did put pressure on in the final 15 minutes by finding the back of the net.

Aberdeen then took the confidence from that result into their midweek Europa League playoff match against Hacken, picking up a 2-2 result in the away leg to give them a good chance of progressing next week.

Another goal from Mivoski and one from Nicky Devlin in the space of five minutes saw them come from two goals behind to get a positive result, with that fighting spirit being something the Dons will look to inject into this weekend.

Team News

The back three of Marcus Fraser, Alex Gogic and Richard Taylor is likely to be unchanged for St Mirren considering they kept a clean sheet in their most recent outing.

However, they will be without Mark O'Hara who remains on the sidelines due to a thigh issue which is something that the Buddies have been dealing with for a while now.

After scoring a goal in each of Aberdeen's previous three matches in all competitions, Miovski is sure to lead the line as he aims to continue his impressive start to the campaign.

The Dons' new signings all featured on the bench during the midweek European clash, meaning Richard Jensen, Jamie McGrath and James McGarry could all be options this weekend.

St Mirren possible starting lineup:
Hemming; Fraser, Gogic, Taylor; Strain, Baccus, Boyd-Munce, Tanser; McMenamin, Kiltie; Mandron

Aberdeen possible starting lineup:
Roos; Devlin, Rubezic, McKenzie; Morris, Clarkson, Polvara, Shinnie, Duncan; Miovski, Duk

We say: St Mirren 2-1 Aberdeen

Aberdeen have put together some good performances in their most recent games, but that run could come to an end this weekend as they face one of the most in-form teams in Scotland.

St Mirren are thriving right now in all competitions, and the momentum that is behind them should be enough to secure another three points.
