Gylfi Sigurdsson: 'Tottenham Hotspur not in title race'

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson insists that his side are not contenders for the Premier League title this season.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson has declared that his side have not even considered challenging for the Premier League title this season, despite making a strong start to the campaign.

Spurs have won four of their first five games and sit second in the table, with just goal difference separating them from leaders Arsenal.

Sigurdsson is adamant that Champions League qualification remains the sole priority for Andre Villas-Boas's side, as they prepare to face Aston Villa in the League Cup tonight.

He told The Sun: "We've got Villa first so we're concentrating on recovering for that.

"We hope we're still in the competition on Wednesday and then we can look forward to the Chelsea game. But the most important thing for us is to keep winning and make sure we get Champions League football.

"That's what we're trying to achieve. A title challenge is not what we're thinking about."

The 24-year-old has been a regular feature for Spurs this season, bagging a match-winning brace against Norwich City in his best performance of the campaign to date.
