Glenn Hoddle is not convinced that Harry Redknapp was sacked from Tottenham Hotspur because of footballing reasons.

Tottenham Hotspur great Glenn Hoddle does not believe that Harry Redknapp's sacking as Spurs boss was based solely on footballing reasons.

Redknapp parted company with the North London club in the early hours of Thursday morning and Hoddle was perplexed by the decision.

Hoddle told talkSPORT: "I'm very surprised. I'm shocked really. If it is just for football reasons it doesn't seem right. Harry has done a great job from when he took over to where he's left them now.

"You wonder if there are some other reasons behind it that we will never find out about. It's a big surprise to a lot of Spurs fans that I have been talking to and myself.

"We don't know what has gone on behind the scenes."

Hoddle made 377 league appearances, scoring 88 goals, during his 12-year stint at White Hart Lane as a player.
