Virgil van Dijk: 'We must improve against Bournemouth'

Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk wants to see an improved performance from the team in their Premier League match against Bournemouth.

Virgil van Dijk has said that he would like to see an improved performance from Southampton in their Premier League match against Bournemouth.

The Saints host their South Coast rivals after letting a two-goal lead slip in a draw with Leicester City in their last home match.

The defender, who joined the club from Celtic during this summer's transfer window, told the team's website: "We want to do much better than we did last game at home against Leicester, control the game 90 minutes and win the game. I want to keep clean sheets now as well, instead of winning and still conceding.

"There's still a lot to improve and I'm aware of that and I want to get the maximum out of myself and out of my team, so we work hard every day and at the end of the day it's all about winning and progressing as a team.

"It's an important game for us to get the three points and move further and I think for the upcoming games as well we can extend this run with the upcoming games we have."

Southampton, who beat Aston Villa in a League Cup match earlier this week, sit eighth in the Premier League table.
