Gordon Strachan: 'Scotland will be playing for all three points'

Scotland boss Gordon Strachan insists that his side will be travelling to the Republic of Ireland looking to claim three points at the Aviva Stadium.

Scotland coach Gordon Strachan has insisted that his side will be going for all three points when they meet the Republic of Ireland in their Euro 2016 qualifying clash on Saturday.

Scotland go into the fixture level on points with second-placed Germany and hold a two-point lead of Martin O'Neill's charges in Group D, but Strachan has assured fans that they will not be travelling to hold out for a draw at the Aviva Stadium.

"I can't remember any manager telling me - and I am going back 40 years - that this is the way you play for a draw. I don't think I have tried it myself. Try to win the game and see what happens after that," said Strachan, according to Sky Sports News.

"Would I take a draw? There will be point added somewhere along the line but you don't know the points total you have to achieve. So you play the game and you get your point, or three points or no points and get on with it.

"It might have no relevance to where we end up or it might be important, you never know. All we try to do is perform and we have done in every tie so far. If we can get that and for some reason don't get the points we are after then so be it, we move on to the next game."

Scotland beat the Republic of Ireland 1-0 when they met in the opposing fixture last year.
