Arsenal 'beat Manchester United to Dayot Upamecano'

Arsenal win the race to sign French defender Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig, according to a report.

Arsenal have reportedly won the race for RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano.

The 21-year-old's existing deal with Leipzig is due to expire next June, and it is understood that the defender can be signed for a fee in the region of £53m before the end of the month.

Manchester United have been strongly linked with a potential move in recent weeks, but according to Tuttosport, Arsenal have secured a deal for the Frenchman.

The report claims that AC Milan made a move for Upamecano but were quickly informed by Leipzig that the powerful central defender was heading to the Emirates Stadium ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.

The France Under-21 international has made 25 Bundesliga appearances this season but missed his side's last league game against Hoffenheim through suspension.

William Saliba - signed from Saint-Etienne last summer before remaining on loan in France - is also due to officially arrive at the London club ahead of next season.
