Anders Lindegaard is determined to be Manchester United's number one

Andres Lindegaard reveals that he wants to earn the right to be Manchester United's first-choice goalkeeper this season.

Anders Lindegaard has revealed that he wants to earn the right to be considered Manchester United's first-choice goalkeeper this season.

Lindegaard enjoyed a successful run in the United side before an ankle injury suffered in training halted his progress.

The 28-year-old will start the new campaign in pole position for a starting role with David De Gea on Olympic duty with Spain.

Lindegaard revealed he wants to earn his spot between the posts at Old Trafford on merit.

He told Sky Sports News: "I want the No.1 spot because I am the best," he said. I don't want it because he (De Gea) is injured or he is not here.

"I am sure he is a bit in front right now because he did well last season, so I need to take every chance I get to prove myself worthy of the No.1 spot."

The Dane will hope to put his injury problems behind him as he begins the Premier League season for United away to Everton on August 20.
