David Gill backs Sir Alex Ferguson transfer policy

Manchester United chief executive David Gill says that Sir Alex Ferguson has money to spend this summer.

Manchester United chief executive David Gill has given his support to manager Sir Alex Ferguson in the transfer window.

The United boss slated newly-crowned Premier League champions Manchester City's activities in the transfer market, saying that they spend "stupid money" and pay "silly salaries".

Gill has leapt to the defence of the Scot and insists that the Red Devils can compete with their rivals.

"Funds are available without a doubt," Gill said.

"We can still pay very well in terms of wages and transfer fees. Clearly City have raised the bar again. We have seen that with what they are prepared to pay for players and to them.

"But we need to move on. Financial Fair Play is just around the corner."

United spent big money on the likes of Ashley Young, David De Gea and Phil Jones last summer.
