Graeme Souness: 'Brendan Rodgers must carry can for signings'

Graeme Souness suggests that Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is under pressure because of the signings that he made in the summer.

Former Liverpool player and manager Graeme Souness has suggested that Brendan Rodgers is feeling the pressure at Anfield because of the signings that he made in the summer.

The Reds boss has been criticised in some quarters following the team's start to the season, which sees them sitting ninth in the standings after seven games.

Ahead of facing city rivals Everton at Goodison Park this weekend, Souness has said that the Liverpool boss is still facing several selection dilemmas.

"It's the Merseyside derby on Sunday, but Liverpool's season still hasn't really got going," Souness told Sky Sports News.

"Brendan Rodgers is still scratching around for his best formation and a settled XI. Injuries are an obvious problem for him, but the other issue is the type of players he has bought - and that's something the manager has to take responsibility for.

"You've got a nervous Liverpool team going to Goodison Park to play an Everton side full of belief. For that reason, the home side will start as favourites and Evertonians will be looking forward to this far more than the red part of Liverpool."

Prior to taking on Everton, Liverpool face Sion in the Europa League this evening.
