Liverpool apologise to 'Duncan Jenkins' creator

Liverpool apologise to supporter Sean Cummins following his altercation with its director of communications Jen Chang.

Liverpool has issued an apology over the treatment of a supporter who lampooned the club with the creation of a fictitious football journalist.

Reds supporter Sean Cummins caused a stir with his Twitter-based spoof character Duncan Jenkins, leading to him being confronted by the club's director of communications Jen Chang.

The two attended a meeting at a Manchester restaurant after Chang accused Cummins of obtaining sensitive information about Liverpool via inside leaks. Cummins later alleged that the executive made a number of threats towards him.

Following an investigation into that matter, Liverpool concluded that Chang had acted "inappropriately" and issued an apology to Cummins.

"Based on everything I have heard and seen, including information provided by the parties involved in the matter, I acknowledge some of the elements you highlight were not appropriate," said the letter, which surfaced on sportingintelligence.

"I would therefore like to apologise to you on behalf of Liverpool FC, for any upset and distress this caused you.

"Clearly it is not appropriate for me to comment on how the club is managing this internally, and I trust you understand this."

Liverpool have stated that they will not be making any further comment on the issue.
