Jurgen Klopp admits himself to hospital to undergo checks

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp misses training after admitting himself to hospital, but he is expected to be released later today.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp missed training on Wednesday afternoon after self-admitting himself to hospital to undergo a series of checks.

The 50-year-old is said to have fallen unwell on Tuesday night and took the decision to attend a hospital appointment earlier today.

However, widespread reports suggest that the German's condition is nothing serious and he is expected to return home this evening after being assessed by doctors.

Klopp underwent emergency appendicitis surgery at a private clinic in February 2016, forcing him to miss the 2-2 draw with Sunderland, but he is likely to be back in the dugout ready for Saturday's league visit of Southampton.

After spending a short spell in South Africa during the international break, Klopp returned to the Reds' Melwood training ground late last week to work with those not away with their countries.

Liverpool are fifth in the Premier League table after 11 games, three points outside the top four and 12 adrift of leaders Manchester City.
