Levante come out on top against rivals Valencia

Levante defeat Valencia 2-0 in a feisty local derby in La Liga.

Levante have defeated 10-man Valencia 2-0 to leapfrog their city rivals into eighth place in La Liga.

Javi Fuego almost fired the visitors ahead when he latched onto a lofted cross into the box, but his effort was kept out by Keilor Navas, who made a fine save.

It took until the 70th minute of the feisty local affair for first goal to come, and it was Levante who made the breakthrough courtesy of Angel, who finished off a fine solo move.

Andreas Ivanschitz added a second for Les Granotes with 10 minutes remaining when he found some space inside the box, before firing past Diego Alves.

Levante's night was slightly soured by Pedro Lopez's dismissal in the closing minutes of the game for a dangerous challenge, but they managed to hold out comfortably for all three points.
