Ipswich Town lose top scorer David McGoldrick to injury

Ipswich Town's push for the Championship playoffs suffers a major blow as David McGoldrick is ruled out for at least 10 weeks with knee ligament damage.

Ipswich Town's hopes of reaching the Championship playoffs have suffered a major blow after top scorer David McGoldrick was ruled out for at least 10 weeks.

The 26-year-old, who has 14 Championship goals to his name this term, damaged his knee ligaments right at the end of Ipswich's goalless draw against Blackpool on Saturday.

"Didz has suffered a partial tear of the medial ligament in his right knee," Blues physio Matt Byard told the club's official website.

"He had an MRI scan this morning and will be wearing a brace for the next six weeks.

"After that, you are looking at the rehabilitation of around four weeks, so in all we'd expect Didz to be out for 10 weeks, which obviously takes us up to the last week of the season."

McGoldrick's absence could see increased importance placed on Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, who came off the bench against Blackpool.

Ipswich are five points adrift of the top six with 15 games left of the season.
