Newcastle United reportedly make contact with Chelsea regarding the possibility of signing Ethan Ampadu on a season-long loan deal.

Versatile Chelsea player Ethan Ampadu has reportedly emerged as a summer transfer target for Newcastle United.

Despite having made 25 Premier League appearances at Sheffield United last season, the Wales international will again be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge on a temporary basis before the end of the month.

The 20-year-old, who can play in defence or midfield, has admirers in England's top flight, the Championship and abroad.

However, according to the Northern Echo, Newcastle are currently showing the most interest in the youngster as they bid to strengthen their squad.

Having spent £25m on signing Arsenal playmaker Joe Willock, Steve Bruce will realistically have to look at lower-priced deals for the rest of the month.

Chelsea may request that Ampadu pens a one-year extension to his contract if he is to move to St James' Park for the next nine months.
