Chelsea returned to wining ways by beating Aston Villa 2-0 in their Premier League clash.

Diego Costa opened the scoring with a close-range finish from Willian's pass, after Brad Guzan had given the ball away.

The Brazilian was involved again after the break, as his strike deflected off Alan Hutton and looped into the net to seal the three points for the Blues.

Goal

Asmir Begovic: Was rarely troubled as Villa only managed one shot on target, but dominated his area well throughout the match. (6/10)

Defence

Cesar Azpilicueta: The Spaniard was given a host of problems by Grealish in the first half. However, he improved after the break and make a vital block to deny Lescott from scoring. (6/10)

John Terry: Solid performance from the Chelsea skipper, who was rarely caught out of position and helped his team to build from the back. (7/10)

Kurt Zouma: Dominated in the air throughout the match against Gestede. He ensured that the Villa striker had little chance to threaten and he was always on hand to clear any danger. (7/10)

Baba Rahman: Had a poor start to the match and he was outmuscled by Hutton early on, which almost led to a Villa goal. He gradually found his feet as the game wore on and was far more solid in the closing stages. (6/10)

Midfield

Ramires: The Brazilian produced a committed and battling display in the heart of the midfield and did a fine job of protecting his defence. (7/10)

Ruben Loftus-Cheek: Had a good start to the afternoon and saw an effort deflect narrowly wide, but was replaced at the break by Matic. (6/10)

Cesc Fabregas: Picked out Costa with a precise ball over the top that led to the second goal. He also flashed an effort wide late on, and showed signs of getting back to his best. (7/10)

Attack

Willian: Nipped in ahead of Lescott to get onto Guzan's poor pass, before setting up Costa to give Chelsea the lead. He was also involved in a lot of his team's best moves and left the pitch to a standing ovation in stoppage time. (8/10)

Pedro: Showed glimpses of his threat and fired a powerful effort over the bar, but struggled to make his mark on the contest. (6/10)

Diego Costa: Was at the heart of everything good on his return for Chelsea. He scored the first goal with a simple finish, before sealing the points with a strike that deflected off Hutton. (8/10)

Substitutes

Nemanja Matic: Came on at the break for Loftus-Cheek and helped Chelsea to get a firmer grip of the midfield as they saw out the match. (7/10)

Eden Hazard: Had little time to impress after coming on in the final 10 minutes. (6/10)

Loic Remy: Was only on for the last two minutes of stoppage time as the Blues looked to run down the clock. (6/10)

Goal

Brad Guzan: His poor pass led to the first goal, as it was intercepted by Willian who set up Costa to finish. He looked nervous from that moment, but could have done nothing about the second goal, which took a huge deflection. (4/10)

Defence

Alan Hutton: Came close to giving Villa the lead with a driving run into the box, before seeing his effort saved by the keeper. He dealt well with Chelsea's threat down his flank, but was unfortunate to see a Costa shot deflect off him for the second goal. (6/10)

Micah Richards: Played well throughout most of the match, but was caught out by Costa, who beat him too easily before his shot came off Hutton for the second Chelsea goal. (6/10)

Joleon Lescott: Struggled against Costa all afternoon and was played into danger for the opening goal following a poor pass from his keeper that left him exposed against Willian. (5/10)

Kieran Richardson: Almost cost his team a goal in the first half after losing possession to Costa, and could not handle the runs of Willian down his flank, before he was replaced after the break. (5/10)

Midfield

Ashley Westwood: Was unable to help Villa control the midfield and he gave the ball away in some dangerous areas. (5/10)

Idrissa Gueye: Looked lively in the early stages and made some important tackles, but faded as the game wore on. (6/10)

Carles Gil: Failed to make any impact on the match and was brushed off the ball far too easily by the Blues. (5/10)

Attack

Jack Grealish: Was the best player on the pitch for the visitors. Showed plenty of threat down the wing in the first half and had his side's only attempt on target. (7/10)

Jordan Ayew: Decent showing from the Ghana international, who curled a free kick narrowly over the bar and almost set up a goal for Gestede following a powerful run into the box. (6/10)

Rudy Gestede: Battled well in the air against Terry and Zouma, but was left stranded for huge periods of the match and had little support. (6/10)

Substitutes

Jordan Amavi: Provided very little following his arrival just past the hour mark. (6/10)

Adama Traore: Another who failed to make an impact after coming on for the last 22 minutes. (6/10)
