Steven Gerrard tells Liverpool's critics to judge the success of their season based on trophies ahead of their FA Cup final against Chelsea.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has told the club's critics to judge their season after the FA Cup final on Saturday.

The Reds meet Chelsea at Wembley hoping to make up for their poor league campaign by securing a second domestic trophy of the year.

Gerrard believes that trophies are more important than league position and has insisted that Liverpool's season will be deemed a success should they beat the Blues this weekend.

"If we can look back and say we have won two cups, then we will be happy. People will judge us after Saturday. People will say, 'You haven't done well in the league' but if we can say, 'Yes, but we have won two cups', I think that's a fair argument," he said.

"This club is all about winning trophies, big trophies, and the FA Cup comes under that - silverware is success. That's why we play the game.

"Some of the biggest experiences we have had over the years are from winning cups - the European Cup, the FA Cup, the UEFA Cup, the Carling Cup. Those are the nights and days that you look back on with fond memories."

Liverpool won the Carling Cup in February with a penalty shootout victory over Cardiff City.
