Leigh Griffiths: 'Celtic must keep hold of top spot in Scottish Premiership'

Leigh Griffiths acknowledges that he faces competition for a starting place at Celtic, but is hopeful that he sent out a message against Motherwell last night.

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has warned his teammates that the hard work has only just begun after seeing his side climb to the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

The Hoops cruised past Motherwell 4-0 at Celtic Park last night to reach the summit.

Griffiths is now predicting a real battle with Aberdeen, who currently sit one point behind Celtic in second place, although he believes that the club have more than enough options to see the challenge through.

"We want to be at the top of the league and we want to stay there," he is quoted as saying by the Evening Times. "But Aberdeen are a good side and they will be there right to the end."

"We have got pretty much a full squad entering a crucial spell. We have got a lot of big games coming up. I think the manager will have a real selection dilemma.

"The attacking options we have got are the club great. As I say, he manager has got a selection dilemma. Whoever he plays up front will be doing well. Hopefully I have done enough to retain my position in the side."

Having found the net during last night's win, Griffiths now finds himself on five goals this campaign.
