Real Betis grab 1-0 win over Vitoria de Guimaraes

Real Betis narrowly beat Vitoria de Guimaraes 1-0 in the Europa League.

Real Betis have earned a narrow 1-0 victory over Vitoria de Guimaraes in the Europa League this evening, with Alvaro Vadillo scoring his side's crucial goal in the second half.

The away side could have taken a surprise lead early on as Chris Malonga spurned an opportunity with just one minute on the clock.

The home side's best chance of the half came in the 33rd minute when Joan Verdu whipped in a free kick, which ended up with Nosa Igiebor who missed the target.

Jorge Molina then carved out another good opportunity with an effort on goal, but he was thwarted by a great save from goalkeeper Douglas.

After the break Betis managed to get more of a foothold in the game and took the lead when Vadillo cut in from the left, exchanged passes with Verdu on the edge of the area before curling a finish into the far corner.

The away side pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages of the game as Paulo Oliveira tested Betis keeper Stephan Andersen late on, but he kept out the effort to ensure his side grabbed a crucial 1-0 home victory.
