Pep Guardiola unsurprised by Bayern Munich defeat

Pep Guardiola concedes that it came as little surprise to see his Bayern Munich side lose 3-1 at Porto in a Champions League quarter-final first leg.

Pep Guardiola has admitted that he was not surprised to see his Bayern Munich side slump to a 3-1 defeat in Wednesday's Champions League visit to Porto.

The Bavarians' bid to reach the semi-final stage suffered potentially irreversible damage when a brace from Ricardo Quaresma and a Jackson Martinez goal humbled them in Portugal.

Quaresma's double came after just 10 minutes, the first of which was from the penalty spot, and Guardiola admits that he knew about the hosts' attacking quality.

"We were not surprised by Porto's start to the game. I knew we were going to face a very good team, we knew they had a good attack," he told reporters.

"The quality of this game was at the highest level, we are lucky to be in this phase of the competition. Jackson Martínez is a top player. Casemiro and [Hector] Herrera played very well.

"In the Champions League you have to be practically perfect to win a match. It did not go well but we have six days to prepare [for the second leg]."

Having netted an all-important away goal through Thiago Alcantara, a 2-0 win at the Allianz Arena would see the 2013 champions progress to the last four on Tuesday.
