Newcastle United are being priced out of a potential move for Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak during the summer transfer window, according to Craig Hope.

Newcastle United have been priced out of a move for Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak this summer, according to Craig Hope.

The 22-year-old is being heavily linked with a move away from the Basque club during the transfer window, and the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City have been credited with an interest in him in the past.

However, no move has yet materialised for the Sweden international, who struggled to recapture his form of previous years during the 2021-22 campaign, during which he scored just 10 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions.

Despite this, Newcastle are rumoured to be interested in bringing Isak to the Premier League ahead of the 2022-23 season, but the Daily Mail journalist is reporting that Sociedad's asking price is far too high as things stand.

Via his official Twitter account, Hope replied to a tweet quoting his suggestion that there is interest from Newcastle in the striker this summer, and the reporter said: "Newcastle like Alexander Isak but asking price has always been too high for them. No suggestion that has changed, yet."

There is not yet a suggestion of how much the La Liga outfit would be demanding for their centre forward, but Eddie Howe's side could be facing another setback in their pursuit of another goalscorer this summer.

The Newcastle boss is keen to bring in a striker to ease the goalscoring burden on Callum Wilson next season, but after a move for Hugo Ekitike broke down despite being close to completion in the past, the Tyneside club have been forced to search for alternatives.

Isak joined Sociedad for around £7m from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2019, and has gone on to score 43 goals in 130 appearances for the club across all competitions during his three-year stay so far.
