Preview: Tottenham Hotspur Ladies vs. Chelsea Women - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Women's Super League clash between Tottenham Hotspur Ladies and Chelsea Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Chelsea Women will have the chance to move to the top of the Women's Super League table when they face Tottenham Hotspur Ladies at Brisbane Road.

The hosts will have to pick themselves up quickly from Sunday's disappointing defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup final.

Tottenham will be in a downbeat mood after their first FA Cup final appearance ended in a heavy 4-0 defeat to Man United.

Ella Toone produced a stunning strike to open the scoring in first-half stoppage time, before Man United netted three goals in the second period to condemn Spurs to their first loss since the start of March.

Despite falling short at Wembley, Tottenham can still be proud of the progress that they have made in Robert Vilahamn's first season in charge.

As well as leading the club to the FA Cup final, Vilahamn has seen his team collect 28 points from 20 league matches, representing a considerable step forward from last season's 18-point tally.

With two games left to play, Spurs are guaranteed to finish in sixth position, but they will still be motivated to extend their unbeaten league run to six matches.

Chelsea saw their quadruple hopes go up in smoke with a League Cup final defeat and semi-final losses in the FA Cup and Champions League.

The Blues then experienced more disappointment when they fell to a 4-3 defeat in their most recent away game against Liverpool.

That result appeared to dent Chelsea's WSL title hopes, but they were given a reprieve when Man City conceded two late goals to lose 2-1 to third-placed Arsenal.

Emma Hayes's side took full advantage of Man City's slip-up, thumping basement side Bristol City 8-0 thanks to four Guro Reiten goals, an Aggie Beever-Jones brace, as well as strikes from Sjoeke Nusken and Niamh Charles.

With three points separating them from the Citizens, Chelsea know that a win over Tottenham will move them to the top of the table ahead of the final day of the season due to their small goal-difference advantage.

Team News

Manchester United loanee Grace Clinton is set to return to the Tottenham side after being ineligible to face her parent club in the FA Cup final.

Vilahamn may be tempted to bring in more fresh legs, with Olga Ahtinen and Celine Bizet among those who could be considered for a starting spot.

Former Chelsea forward Bethany England is expected to lead the line after scoring in each of Tottenham's last four league matches.

As for the visitors, they are still unable to call upon the services of Aniek Nouwen, Sam Kerr and Mia Fishel due to injury.

Lauren James and Mayra Ramirez are both doubts due to their recent struggles with foot and hamstring injuries respectively.

After making changes for the win over Bristol City, Hayes could be tempted to recall Hannah Hampton, Ashley Lawrence, Melanie Leupolz and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd.

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies possible starting lineup:
Spencer; Neville, Turner, Buhler, Nilden; Summanen, Ahtinen, Clinton; Bizet, Naz, England

Chelsea Women possible starting lineup:
Hampton; Lawrence, Bright, Bjorn, Charles; Leupolz, Cuthbert; Rytting Kaneryd, Nusken, Reiten; Beever-Jones

We say: Tottenham Hotspur Ladies 1-3 Chelsea Women

Chelsea have had 10 days to prepare for Wednesday's fixture, and we think that they will make full use of their fresher legs to beat Spurs and move to the top of the WSL table.
