Saturday's Major League Soccer predictions including Charlotte vs. Inter Miami

Sports Mole provides score predictions and previews for all of today's Major League Soccer fixtures, including Charlotte vs. Inter Miami.

NY City vs. Chicago Fire (Saturday, 11.00pm)

New York City FC forward Julian Fernandez in action versus Toronto© Reuters

In what will be an all-or-nothing game for the home side, New York City FC need a victory against the Chicago Fire on Saturday at Citi Field to have any hope of making the MLS Cup playoffs.

A 2-0 loss at DC United has put the Pigeons in a difficult position heading into Decision Day, needing a win combined with a slip-up by the New York Red Bulls and Charlotte FC to claim a Wild card berth, while Chicago need a victory and the Red Bulls to drop points to book a spot in that round following a 2-0 defeat versus Charlotte.

We say: New York City FC 2-0 Chicago Fire

Chicago have lost seven successive away matches versus NYCFC in this competition, and though this will be their first visit to Citi Field, we believe the Pigeons' desperation will serve them well on Decision Day, though it may already be too little too late for each side in the playoff battle.

Toronto vs. Orlando City (Saturday, 11.00pm)

Toronto FC forward Federico Bernardeschi (10) receives a red card on July 4, 2023© Reuters

Another disappointing MLS campaign for Toronto will end on Saturday when they host Orlando City at BMO Field.

Heading into the final game of the regular season, the Reds are on a six-match losing run as they were beaten 3-0 by the New York Red Bulls in their previous encounter, while the Lions have won three in a row, squeaking past the New England Revolution 3-2.

We say: Toronto 1-2 Orlando City

We want to think having nothing to lose and being under new management would change the Reds' fate this weekend, but there is just too much working against the home side in all areas of the field for us to believe they can claim even a single point out of nowhere.

Charlotte FC vs. Inter Miami (Saturday, 11.00pm)

Charlotte FC midfielder Brecht Dejaegere (10) celebrates on October 5, 2023© Reuters

Charlotte FC and Inter Miami will resume Major League Soccer action on Saturday when they go head-to-head at the Bank of America Stadium on Saturday.

Both teams will be looking to return to winning ways as soon as possible having failed to come out on top in their respective most recent encounters.

We say: Charlotte FC 2-1 Inter Miami

Charlotte have everything to play for heading into this one, and they will need no further motivation to turn on the style. We fancy the home side to get the job done, albeit by only a narrow margin.

Cincinnati vs. Atlanta (Saturday, 11.00pm)

Atlanta United forward Edwin Mosquera on October 5, 2023© Reuters

FC Cincinnati go in search of back-to-back wins either side of the international break when they play host to Atlanta United on Saturday evening.

On the other hand, the away side make the journey to the TQL Stadium aiming to pick up a first victory in three Major League Soccer matches.

We say: FC Cincinnati 3-1 Atlanta United

FC Cincinnati have established themselves as the best team of the regular season but will still be looking to lay down a marker ahead of the playoffs. We can see them coming up on top in what should be a fairly one-sided affair.

Columbus Crew vs. Montreal (Saturday, 11.00pm)

Columbus Crew head coach Wilfried Nancy on August 1, 2023© Reuters

With their playoff lives on the line, CF Montreal travel to Lower.com Field on Saturday to face the Columbus Crew on the final day of the MLS regular season.

The Crew have already clinched a spot in the playoffs, playing to a 1-1 draw the last time out versus Atlanta United, while Le CFM are a point above the post-season line heading into Decision Day, following a 4-1 victory over the Portland Timbers.

We say: Columbus Crew 2-0 CF Montreal

Knowing that a win is likely what they need on Decision Day, we expect the desperation level for Le CFM to ramp up the longer this match remains tied, and that should play right into the hands of the Crew, who are deadly on the counter and can hurt you in a variety of ways.

Nashville vs. NY Red Bulls (Saturday, 11.00pm)

It is all or nothing for New York Red Bulls in their quest for a place in the playoffs as they journey to Geodis Park to face Nashville SC in the final game of the 2023 MLS campaign on Saturday.

The Red Bulls, who are currently 10th in the Western Conference standings, head into the weekend in a heated five-way battle for the playoff wild card tickets.

We say: Nashville SC 1-3 New York Red Bulls

Given the stakes of Saturday's game, we expect New York Red Bulls to throw the kitchen sink in search of all three points at Geodis Park. The Red Bulls have enjoyed the better of this fixture and given their current run of form, we fancy them extending their dominance over Nashville.

New England vs. Philadelphia (Saturday, 11.00pm)

New England Revolution interim head coach Clint Peay looks on on September 17, 2023© Reuters

Both looking to secure home-field advantage in the upcoming playoffs, New England Revolution welcome Philadelphia Union to Gillette Stadium on Decision Day in MLS this Saturday.

The Revs' spot in the post-season is secured despite a worrying run of form over the past month, while Philadelphia are aiming to continue their impressive unbeaten streak on the final day of the regular term.

We say: New England Revolution 1-2 Philadelphia Union

New England have struggled massively with keeping the ball out of their net in recent matches, and it is hard to see Peay's men changing their ways against a Philadelphia side who arrive at Gillette Stadium in good form.

The Union's goalless draw with Nashville was labelled 'boring' by some supporters, however a Decision Day meeting with the Revs should provide some considerable attacking entertainment.

Portland vs. Houston (Sunday, 2.00am)

Portland Timbers defender Claudio Bravo (5) celebrates on September 10, 2023© Reuters

Off the back of a first defeat in eight matches last time out, Portland Timbers welcome Houston Dynamo to Providence Park on Sunday morning.

On the other hand, the away side go in search of consecutive wins having got back to winning ways in their last outing before the international break.

We say: Portland Timbers 2-1 Houston Dynamo

The teams have shown they have goals in them and we are expecting an open and end-to-end affair. We are also backing Portland Timbers to just about see off the threat of their visitors and carry the day in the end.

Earthquakes vs. Austin (Sunday, 2.00am)

San Jose Earthquakes forward Jeremy Ebobisse (center) reacts after scoring a goal on September 17, 2023© Reuters

San Jose Earthquakes will set out to end a four-game winless run in Major League Soccer action when they take on Austin FC at PayPal Park on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the away side will be aiming to get themselves back on track having won just one of their last 12 matches across all competitions.

We say: San Jose Earthquakes 2-0 Austin FC

San Jose have enjoyed the better of this fixture to a large degree and we can see the trend continuing here. We are tipping the hosts to cruise to a routine win come the end of the 90 minutes.

St Louis City vs. Seattle (Sunday, 2.00am)

St Louis City SC forward Klauss (9) celebrates his goal on September 11, 2023© Reuters

St Louis City and Seattle Sounders draw the curtains on their 2023 Major League Soccer campaign when they go head to head at CityPark on Saturday.

The home side sit top of the Western Conference table with 56 points from 33 matches and will head into the weekend looking to break the regular-season league points record by an expansion side.

We say: St Louis City 1-1 Seattle Sounders

While the Seattle Sounders are unbeaten in nine games on the bounce, they face the stern challenge of taking on a St Louis side who have been near impenetrable at home in the league. We predict both sides will cancel out each other's efforts and settle for a share of the spoils.

Vancouver vs. Los Angeles (Sunday, 2.00am)

Vancouver Whitecaps head coach Vanni Sartini on September 17, 2023© Reuters

In the final regular season match of the MLS campaign for both clubs, the Vancouver Whitecaps need a victory over Los Angeles FC at BC Place Stadium on Saturday to have any hope of home-field advantage in the opening round of the playoffs.

Both teams have already assured their place in the playoffs, with Vancouver playing to a 0-0 draw against the Seattle Sounders in their previous encounter, while the reigning MLS Cup champions overpowered Austin FC, winning 4-2.

We say: Vancouver Whitecaps 1-1 Los Angeles FC

Both teams may still have something to play for this weekend, but neither want to risk injuries to their key players, given how valuable Bouanga and Gauld are to their respective sides.

We expect to see a spirited affair, but we do not believe either side will push themselves too hard in this one.

Colorado vs. Salt Lake (Sunday, 2.00am)

Colorado Rapids interim head coach Chris Little looks on on September 28, 2023© Reuters

Colorado Rapids bring their 2023 MLS campaign to a merciful end when they play host to Real Salt Lake at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Saturday.

Just two years on from clinching the Western Conference title, the Rapids will finish the MLS regular season rooted to the bottom of the table in what has been a truly forgettable season.

We say: Colorado Rapids 1-1 Real Salt Lake

Colorado Rapids have nothing to play for as they are assured of finishing rock-bottom in the Western Conference table, they will be looking to end the campaign on a high. Real Salt Lake have already booked their spot in the playoffs, but given their current form on the road, we see them struggling at the Dick's Sporting Goods Park this weekend.

Our tipster partners are predicting over 2.5 goals.

Kansas vs. Minnesota Utd (Sunday, 2.00am)

Sporting Kansas City manager Peter Vermes on September 17, 2023© Reuters

In what will be an all-or-nothing clash in their quest for a place in the playoffs, Sporting Kansas City and Minnesota United go head to head in the final game of the regular MLS season on Saturday.

Both sides, who are level on 11 points, sit just two points behind ninth-placed San Jose Earthquake in the final wild card qualification spot and will need all three points this weekend if they are to stand a chance of securing post-season football.

We say: Sporting Kansas City 2-2 Minnesota United

Both looking to reach the playoffs through the wild card, we anticipate a heated contest at the Children's Mercy Park as Sporting Kansas City and Minnesota United go all out for the win. However, we predict they will cancel out each other's efforts in what should be an entertaining stalemate.

LA Galaxy vs. Dallas (Sunday, 2.00am)

Los Angeles Galaxy (LA Galaxy) forward Preston Judd (31) celebrates with teammates after scoring a goal on June 21, 2023© Reuters

Decision day in the 2023 MLS season is upon us, and the last match on the card will see Los Angeles Galaxy look to end the season on a positive note when they face FC Dallas at Dignity Health Sports Park on Sunday.

The hosts are down in 13th place with 36 points and cannot make the final series playoff places from here, while the visitors have it all to play for as they currently occupy one of the two playoff spots, along with San Jose.

We say: Los Angeles Galaxy 2-2 Dallas

While LA Galaxy will be glad to see the back of a dreadful league season, they will want to have one last say in the final standings and will throw everything they have into this one to give their home fans something to cheer about on the final day. Dallas cannot afford to lose here, but we feel they will have to settle for a point in this one and hope for the best in the other matches elsewhere.
