Tomas Berdych "very happy" with progress at Madrid Open

Tomas Berdych admits that he is "very happy" to reach round three of the Madrid Open following his straight-sets victory over Kevin Anderson.

Tomas Berdych has admitted that he is "very happy" to be in the third round of the Madrid Open following his straight-sets win over Kevin Anderson.

The sixth seed was rarely troubled against his South African opponent on Tuesday as a 6-1 6-4 victory saw him progress.

"It was a good match. I was very happy, especially with the conditions," Berdych told the ATP's official website. "I always like to play here. The courts are great, very well prepared.

"There was also the aspect of the many matches I've played with Kevin and all of them went my way. It's always something that I can build on. I served well, played solid.

"I think we have similar games, but I do it a little bit better and that's the reason. I can always find something extra. It's also probably a mental thing as well now."

Berdych will now face either Grigor Dimitrov or Marius Copil for a spot in the quarter-finals.
