The 2015 Roland Garros semi-finalist took just one-and-a-half hours to get the job done, with a 6-4 6-2 victory paving the way for a meeting against either Venus Williams or Alize Cornet in the next round.

Both players struggled to hold their service game in the first set, but it was Bacsinszky who managed to get over the line in the opener to remain on course to better last year's finish.

Parmentier, whose own best finish in Paris came two years ago when reaching round four, struggled to contain her opponent in the second set as the Swiss held throughout to cruise through.
