Andy Carroll 'wants to forget injury nightmare'

West Ham United's record signing Andy Carroll wants to put his injury "nightmare" behind him after making his first appearance of the season in the 2-0 win over Cardiff City.

West Ham United striker Andy Carroll is desperate to put his injury nightmare behind him after making his comeback in the 2-0 win over Cardiff City.

The England international came off the bench for a 20-minute cameo in Wales, where he played a part in assisting Mark Noble with the Hammers' second goal.

It was the first time that the 25-year-old, the club's record signing at £15m, had featured this season following an ankle problem which required a demanding rehabilitation schedule that Carroll is keen to put in the past, as he focuses on helping the Upton Park outfit move away from the relegation zone.

"It's been an absolute nightmare if I am honest," Carroll told Sky Sports News.

"I have been away to Belgium, Holland, I have been everywhere trying to fix it. Now I am feeling good and just want to play football and forget about it - put it in the past."

Carroll scored seven goals in 24 Premier League games during his loan spell at West Ham last season.
