David Brooks called up to Wales squad after switching allegiance from England

Former England youth winger David Brooks is named in the Wales squad for their final 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and the Republic of Ireland.

Sheffield United youngster David Brooks has been named in the Wales squad for their final 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and the Republic of Ireland.

The 20-year-old winger starred in England's Toulon Tournament success last summer, when he was named as the best player at the competition.

Warrington-born Brooks, however, qualifies for Wales through his Wrexham-born mother, and switched allegiance in August when he was named in Rob Page's Under-21 squad.

Brooks has only started three league games for the Blades, but is highly rated at Bramall Lane and impressed in the 4-2 Steel City derby victory over Sheffield Wednesday last Sunday.

Jazz Richards and James Collins are both absent with injuries, while Preston North End goalkeeper Chris Maxwell wins his first call-up as he replaces Barnsley's Adam Davies in the 23-man squad.

Wales are currently in second place in Group D, four points behind leaders Serbia and one point above the Republic.

Chris Coleman's charges face Georgia away on October 6 and the ROI in Cardiff on October 9.
