Kyle Walker: 'Manchester City rout a wake-up call'

Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Walker insists that there is a newfound determination among the players to achieve a top-four finish this season.

Kyle Walker has claimed that their 6-0 hammering by Manchester City has given Tottenham Hotspur the wake-up call they needed to achieve their top-four ambitions.

The England international full-back scored the opening goal in Spurs' 2-2 draw with Manchester United on Sunday, a week after their mauling at the Etihad Stadium.

Several pundits have ruled the Lillywhites out of the race for Champions League qualification, but Walker has insisted that there is a newfound determination among the players to turnaround their recent form.

"Everyone had to have a word with themselves after Manchester City and I think we proved it," he told reporters. "It was probably a wake-up call and it has come at the right time. Hopefully it kickstarts us and we go to where we want to be.

"With the players we have got, why can't we go on a run? I say it a lot, but the players in the dressing room know we have to dig deep, show why we are playing for Tottenham, why we are playing for such a big club.

"We have to dig in deep, every single one of us. We have to create the chances for the forward players and hopefully it will come together."

Spurs are without a win in their last four Premier League matches, and currently sit ninth in the table.
