Croatia manager Igor Stimac accuses Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy of breaking his "promise" to Luka Modric that he could leave the club for Real Madrid this summer.

Croatia manager Igor Stimac has accused Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy of trying to make himself "famous" within football for delaying to agree a move to Real Madrid for midfielder Luka Modric.

The playmaker, who has been training alone following his admission that he wants to leave White Hart Lane, has been embroiled in a transfer saga, where Spurs reportedly continue to hold out for a bid in the region of £35m from the Spanish giants.

While the Premier League club are thought to be standing firm on their price tag, Stimac believes that Levy has gone back on his original promise to let the 26-year-old leave for the Bernabeu.

"Daniel Levy promised a year ago that, if an offer from Madrid arrived, he would let him go," Stimac told AS Sport. "And when the offer arrived he changed his opinion.

"I think that this guy tries to make himself famous in the world of football, but this isn't the way to do it. When you promise something you always need to fulfil it. It was the same with Berbatov before he signed for Manchester United. He went there on August 31."

Modric has been a Tottenham player since 2008.
