Spurs defender Steven Caulker hopes to have shown new manager Andre Villas-Boas that he is ready for first team football following his Olympic displays.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Steven Caulker has expressed his belief that his Olympic performances could help secure a starting place in Andre Villas-Boas's side.

Caulker, who spent last season on loan at Swansea, impressed for Team GB throughout the tournament, which ended with a penalty defeat at the hands of South Korea last night.

Despite their relatively early exit, Caulker hopes to have shown Villas-Boas enough to convince him that he is ready for first team football.

"The Olympics has been the perfect way for me to show the new manager what I can do and to make sure I am not out of sight," Caulker told the Star on Sunday.

"He seems a very interesting guy with lots of great ideas.

"It's a big positive for the club and he seems to put his trust in the young lads."

Spurs will begin their Premier League campaign against Newcastle United on August 18.
