Southampton recorded their 17th consecutive home league win this evening, edging out ten-man Peterborough United 2-1.
The home side took the lead in the 14th minute when midfielder Richard Chaplow fired low into the net from inside the penalty area before the lead was doubled three minutes later through defender Jos Hooiveld.
Peterborough were reduced to ten men before the break when striker Lee Frecklington picked up a second bookable offence.
The visiting Posh did pull a goal back 14 minutes from time when Emile Sinclair linked up well with George Boyd before wrong-footing Kelvin Davis in the Southampton goal.
The Saints extend their lead to five points at the top while Peterborough drop one place to 13th.
