Jonathan Walters starts up front for the Republic of Ireland in the place of the suspended Shane Long in their World Cup qualifying clash against Faroe Islands.

Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni has sprung no surprises with his team selection to face the Faroe Islands in their World Cup qualifying clash this evening.

Skipper Robbie Keane breaks the all-time appearance record for the national side as he wins his 126th cap.

Striker Shane Long is suspended and is replaced in attack by Stoke City striker Jonathan Walters, who partners his captain.

David Forde, John O'Shea and Sean St Ledger all return to the team after missing the 4-0 win over Georgia on Sunday, as the two defenders occupy the centre-back places.

In midfield, Simon Cox starts on the right wing with Aiden McGeady on the opposite flank while Glenn Whelan and Wes Hoolahan start in the middle.

Republic of Ireland: Forde, Coleman, O'Shea, St Ledger, Wilson, Cox, Whelan, Hoolahan, McGeady, Keane, Walters

Faroe Islands: Nielsen; Justinussen, Frederiksberg, Gregersen, Vatnsdal; Baldvinsson, Samuelsen, Olsen, Holst; Klettskard, Jonsson
